Rhine Gorge, Safien, Landwasser Viaduct,
Rhine Gorge / Safien / Landwasser Viaduct Photo Tour
We visit the Rhine Gorge, the power plant in Safien and the Landwasser Viaduct.
This tour does not have many kilometers, but some passages that are demanding on the way.
Please stick to your tour guide and the departure times, as there are sometimes few parking spaces at the sights on the way.
Bringing your camera is mandatory for photos that you shouldn't miss.
2nd parking lot after the "Tunnel Spitg I
170m", with a view of the Rhine Gorge, turn right after about 700m, drive
slowly.
3rd parking lot with a view of the Rhine Gorge
"Versamer Tobelbrücke", after about 1.5 km
4th parking lot with a view of the Rhine Gorge
"Islabord", after about 4.0 km
On the onward journey to Safien, careful driving is
important, as the yellow danger can appear behind every curve, in the tunnels,
the eyes first have to get used to the darkness.
From about 11:30 a.m. the first ones are expected at the
Rathaus restaurant, we recommend you the exclusive delicacies such as, Capuns
chard wrap filled with Landjäger and baked with cheese. Also available as a
vegetarian version with cabbage and grapes. or Rathaus – Pazügel, a Walser dish
made from spaetzle dough with alpine cheese gratin. Optionally garnished with
salsiz or bacon and pears. or Mixed game salad bowl for two, current town hall
soup, of course there is much more.
After the lunch break at 1:30 p.m., we are all expected at the power plant for a visit.
The tour will be in German, please who can translate it into English for those who don't understand German.
The visit is free, a small donation to the coffee fund for the tour is certainly welcome.
Danger: People with a cardiac pacemaker or an implanted defibrillator access to the power plants may not be permitted for safety reasons.
If you want, you can also see the church at Safien Platz, which has stood a little apart from the village since 1510.
As the last stage destination we will visit the
Landwasser Viaduct (UNESCO World Heritage Site), from the parking lot it is
800m on foot about 10min. The Landwasser Viaduct is 65m high and 136m long, has
6 arches and a single track railway track leading directly into the Landwasser
Tunnel.
After the visit we will make our way back to Tiefencastel.
